About

The first thing we're given, after life, is a name.

Sea: (1) the subjunctive mood of the Spanish verb "Ser" meaning "to be," used to express states of irreality such as wish, emotion, possibility, opinion, necessity, or action that has not yet occurred; (2) the salt waters that cover the greater part of the earth's surface.

So(u)l: (1) Spanish for "sun;" (2) the principle of life, feeling, thought, and action in humans, regarded as a distinct entity separate from the body, and commonly held to be separable in existence from the body; the spiritual part of humans as distinct from the physical part.

Slow Motion

The sun is sitting flat in the sky between two clouds
Seaweed arrived on the shore late last night
with the rains and bass from the sky
Of all the sands, only these particular ones chose to stick to my toes
I wonder how far they’ve traveled to meet me
and think of the distance I’ve come to join them
The waves challenge every swimmer
Everyone yields
A freighter offshore recreates the horizon, adding extra lines
Interruptions, interruptions, interruptions
The masses wander and sprawl, ever looking
Our eyes are not the only way to see
and with words is not the primary way to speak
I imagine a shield around me as the feet trample closely by
and watch the green and white curl in slow motion
